Getting around as a student does not have to be expensive. There are several schemes designed to cut your travel costs significantly.
The 16–25 Railcard
For £30 a year, you get a third off rail fares across Great Britain. If you travel home by train even a few times a year, it pays for itself almost immediately. You can also load it onto an Oyster card for discounted TfL travel.
Local bus deals
Many bus companies offer semester or annual passes at heavily reduced rates for students. Check with your local operator — some universities negotiate exclusive deals that are even cheaper.
