Hardship Funds: Emergency Money When You Need It

If you are struggling financially and your normal income is not covering essentials, your university may be able to help with emergency funding.

What hardship funds cover

Most funds can help with rent arrears, utility bills, essential travel, course materials or food costs. They are designed for genuine emergencies — you do not need to be in crisis to apply, but you do need to show you have explored other options first.

How to apply

Contact your university student services team. They will walk you through the application, which usually involves a short form and some evidence of your financial situation. Decisions are often made within a few days.
