Dealing with Imposter Syndrome

Dealing with Imposter Syndrome

If you have ever felt like you do not belong at university or that everyone else is smarter than you — you are not alone. Imposter syndrome affects most students at some point.

Recognise the pattern

Imposter syndrome tells you that your successes are down to luck and your failures prove you are not good enough. Once you spot this pattern, it loses some of its power. Write down your achievements — the evidence is on your side.

Talk about it

Share how you are feeling with a friend, tutor or counsellor. You will almost certainly discover they have felt the same way. Normalising the conversation is one of the most effective ways to take the sting out of it.
