Creating Your First Student Budget

Creating Your First Student Budget

Starting university means managing your own money for the first time. A simple budget can help you stay on top of things and avoid the end-of-term panic.

Work out what you have coming in

Add up your student loan, any part-time wages, and contributions from family. This is your total income for the term. Divide it by the number of weeks to get a weekly figure you can actually work with.

Track where it goes

Rent, food, transport and your phone bill are the essentials. After those, see what is left for socialising, subscriptions and the odd takeaway. Even a rough spreadsheet makes a big difference.
