Full-time students are exempt from council tax. If you are living in a student house, you should not be paying it — but you may need to apply for the exemption.
How to apply
Contact your local council and provide a council tax exemption certificate from your university. Most universities issue these through your student portal or registry office.
Mixed households
If you live with someone who is not a student, the household is not fully exempt — but the non-student may qualify for a 25% single-person discount. Check with your council for the details.
