European First Year Experience Conference June

In June I enjoyed attending the 2023 European First Year Experience Conference hosted by Abertay University 26-28 June 2023.

The EFYE Network & Conference “aims to bring together people and ideas to support the first-year experience of students in higher education. These ideas are shared through various workshops run by passionate professionals, as well as through friendly discussions between delegates”.

The 2023 three day conference was impressive with over 300 delegates from over 20 countries and a very wide range of workshops, parallel sessions and opportunities for discussion.

The Key note speech “Daring to be Different or should it be Caring to be Different?”  from Dr Emily McIntosh, University of West of Scotland and Dr Luke Millard, Abertay University set up the theme for the conference in discussing the diversity of first year students and their needs and the frameworks needed to enable student success.

I met key leaders including Dr Michelle Morgan, Education Transition Specialist and Diane Nutt Higher Education Consultant, who was the instigator of the EFYE.

…and importantly for My Student Years, I met so many educators enthusiastic about developing frameworks and tools for improving the First Year Experience.
