Your First Tenancy Agreement

Your First Tenancy Agreement

Before you sign anything, take the time to understand what you are agreeing to. A tenancy agreement is a legal contract and it is worth reading properly.

Key things to check

Look for the tenancy length, notice period, deposit amount, and what happens if someone drops out. Check whether bills are included and who is responsible for repairs. If anything seems unclear, ask before you sign.

Know your rights

Your landlord must protect your deposit in a government-approved scheme within 30 days. They must also give at least 24 hours notice before visiting, and the property must meet basic safety standards.
