Writing a Great Essay

Writing a Great Essay

A strong essay is not about fancy vocabulary — it is about a clear argument, good evidence and logical structure.

Start with the question

Before you write anything, make sure you understand what is being asked. Underline the key words, identify the instruction verb (analyse, compare, evaluate) and plan your argument before you start drafting.

Structure is everything

Each paragraph should make one clear point, supported by evidence, and link back to your argument. Introduction sets up the question, the body builds your case, and the conclusion pulls it all together — no new information.
